1An analysis of the experimental data of vortex-induced vibration(VIV)of a flexible circular pipe was conducted with the modal analysis method The experimental data include the orders of participating mode,the variation laws of the frequency components excited by VIV,and high harmonic components. The results showed that a multiple-mode vibration was often observed and the dominant vibrating frequencies were controlled by the vortex shedding frequency which was well related to the Strouhal number. And then an analysis was conducted on the mechanism of the occurrence of these phenomena and the corresponding relations.
