By means of a NH4F-catalyzed sol–gel process, the use of surfactants was avoided. The organic base was preserved inside the mesoporous silica network, providing strong basic properties to the hybrid materials. The hybrid materials have shown high conversions and recyclability in Knoevenagel condensations of different methylene compounds and in Henry and Claisen–Schmidt reactions.
