Competition between glutathione and guanine for a ruthenium(II) arene anticancer complex: Detection of a sulfenato intermediate

Competition between the tripeptide glutathione and guanine for a ruthenium(II) arene anticancer complex is investigated. Complex [(eta(super 6)-bip)Ru(en)(GS-S)] is found to be very sensitive to the presence of air and underwent oxidation to the sulfenato complex [(eta(super 6)-bip)Ru(en)(GS(O)-S)].
