description: Researchers have demonstrated that potassium-doped buckminsterfullerene, C sub(60), has only a single stable superconducting phase in the form of K sub(3)C sub(60) with a transition temperature of 19.3 K. The absence of impurity phases in recently prepared 100% bulk superconductors has allowed for accurate Rietveld analyses of x-ray diffraction data from the superconducting phase. Results reported for the crystal structure of K sub(3)C sub(60) confirm that this superconducting compound has a face-centered cubic structure with a well-defined stoichiometry.
