This article, firstly develops Preiser's assessment of the future of the market economy. Secondly, it looks at his view on the issue how close economic theory may come to reality, a still fundamental problem of economics. Finally, Preiser's rarely matched capacity to look beyond the narrow ranges of economics is discussed. Reprinted by permission of Lucius and Lucius Verlagsgesellschaft
